About this Event

The SACE Merit Ceremony Awards recognises outstanding achievement in Year 12.

For the last 29 years, merits have been been awarded to students who gain an overall grade of A+ for a subject, having demonstrated exceptional achievement.

From the class of 2016, 920 students were awarded 1232 merits. About two-thirds of recipients were girls and the majority came from high profile private schools. Not all these students had the background and opportunities that can lead to achievement. Some overcame adversity and disadvantage to achieve their goals.

In addition, the 26 students with the highest overall achievement were presented with the Governor of South Australia Commendation, by Governor Hieu Van Le. They received this award by gaining perfect scores in their five Year 12 subjects (a university entrance score of 99.5).

His Excellency also presented the Governor of South Australia Commendation – Aboriginal Student SACE Award to the highest overall Aboriginal achiever, and the Governor of South Australia Commendation – Excellence in Modified SACE Award.
